Pegasus Express Pharmacy - Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most commonly asked questions.

Q. What is Pegasus Express Pharmacy?
A. Pegasus is a senior care pharmacy specializing in providing medications and pharmacy services to residents in assisted living, skilled nursing and independent living communities. We have been shipping medications for next-day delivery to thousands of residents for over five years, in nearly 100 communities.

Q. As a resident of a senior living community, how do I benefit from using a senior care pharmacy?
A. A senior care pharmacy like Pegasus is designed to serve clients in senior living settings. That's all we do. We are no a "jack of all trades" pharmacy. The pharmacists at Pegasus know what to look for when reviewing a resident's medication regimen. They know that many residents see multiple physicians --sometimes prescribing different medications that could have dangerous interactions if not identified. In the assisted living setting, the Pegasus pharmacist partners with our facility nurse to ensure a safe, accurate medication system. A singular focus - the senior care resident - makes Pegasus the quality choice for pharmacy services.

Q. What is meant by Pegasus being considered this community's "house pharmacy"?
A. Pegasus has become the house pharmacy for this facility. Residents can now have their medications ordered by their facility nurse and delivered right to their door, in a uniform dosing package. Pegasus will bill be the appropriate party (Medicare part D plan, insurance company, government entity, the individual resident or the community). Pegasus will also provide continuous medication reviews and staff education.

Q. What will Pegasus Express' consultative services cost me as a resident?
A. Nothing. The only cost you will have is for the medications you receive through Pegasus Express.

Q. Right now I use my local pharmacist, and have been doing so for years. Why should I consider switching to Pegasus Express Pharmacy? What makes Pegasus different?
A. Price -- We file all insurance claims, including Medicare Part D and coinsurance claims, and are committed to meeting or beating local retail prices.
Convenience -- Guaranteed free next-day delivery, seven days a week. If any medications are needed immediately, they will be delivered that same day. Again, at no extra charge to you.
Consistency -- Offering the option of automatic refills on your regular medications, so you will never miss a dose.
Continuity -- We will send you an updated medication list with every new or renewed prescription. This is not only for your own benefit, but also for your doctors or family members. This will help prevent overprescribing and eliminate the potential for harmful drug interactions.
Communication -- Pegasus communicates directly with your physician to secure scripts, discontinue or renew medications, and alert them to potentially harmful drug interactions.
Customer Service -- One toll-free call to your customer service representative is all we need -- we'll take it from there.
Congeniality -- Pegasus provides all these quality services with a friendly personal touch, as you will quickly discover once you begin talking with us.
Hassle-Free Monthly Billing -- We will send you one bill at the end of the month. No more writing multiple checks each month every time you get a new prescription. You can mail the checks to us or drop them off at the front desk of your community, and they will send them to us. Your choice.

Q. What is the downside to next-day delivery?
A. There is none. FedEx or UPS will deliver medications to the door of your community, seven days a week. And there is no additional fee for this expedited delivery. Should an emergency medication be ordered by your physician that needs to be started before the next day, we have an arrangement with a local pharmacy to secure the medication so no dose is missed -- once again, at no extra cost to you.

Q. What if I can get my drugs cheaper from another source?
A. Pegasus Express is committed to meeting or beating any price from local, retail pharmacies. Let us give you a quote. There's no commitment on your part and nothing to lose. You just might be pleasantly surprised.

Q. What if I have insurance for my prescription drugs?
A. Pegasus will bill your insurance company directly, including Medicare Part D. You will only be responsible for your co-pay, if any.

Q. How will I be billed for my co-pay?
A. You will receive one monthly statement from Pegasus Express that can be paid with check or bank draft.

Q. I get my medication for free from the VA. Should I continue to do so?
A. Yes. The VA drug benefit is very specific and beneficiaries must order their drugs directly through the VA. Our facility will still accommodate those packages.

Q. Will my doctor approve of getting my medications through Pegasus?
A. Absolutely. Your physician's primary concern is that you receive your initial stock of medications in a timely manner and that you are given the right dose at the right time - and with Pegasus you will.

Q. What if I want to stay with my current pharmacy?
A. While we hope to show you the benefits of transferring your pharmacy needs to Pegasus, it is certainly your choice whether to do so. If you plan on retaining a pharmacy other than Pegasus, that pharmacy will need to meet the same ordering, delivery, packaging and clinical review services as Pegasus. We will need for you to review and sign a risk sharing agreement.

Q. I live in an independent living community. How would I get started with Pegasus?
A. We make it easy, and it begins with a call to our toll-free number at 877-528-0070. Your customer service specialist is Monica, and you will be given her direct line extension. Together, you will create your personal pharmacy profile, including a list of your current medications, physicians, insurance information, and any special preferences you may have regarding your pharmacy services. Then we go to work at securing pharmacy orders for your medications with the prescribing physicians and determine delivery schedules that ensure that you get the right medication on time -- every time.

We feel there is a tremendous benefit to our staff and the resident to get all of their medications from one pharmacy. There is more room for error when multiple pharmacies are involved. And, since Pegasus has a low price guarantee there is really no reason to use another provider.

A message from our nurse...
We currently have medicines coming from several pharmacies, each with their own ordering procedures and packaging systems. As the nurse, I worry about whether every resident gets every medication just as the doctor orders. It has been a very difficult system to monitor. After visiting with Jim from Pegasus I'm convinced that the Pegasus system is the solution to this potential problem. Their ordering, packaging and delivery system will be consistent month to month and will help us minimize the risk for medication errors. Sure it will make my job easier, but more importantly it will enhance the quality care that I can provide my residents. That's why I support the conversion to Pegasus as our house pharmacy.
