Through our Best Friends™ Approach we focus on creative ways to help manage and treat the behavior-based symptoms of Alzheimer's disease – before introducing or expanding the use of medications. By better understanding our friends' life stories, we find ways to engage and redirect. Together with our residents' personal physician, our nurse and regional nurse consultant work to ensure that medications are appropriate and kept to a minimum.
Our Snoezelen Room offers a controlled Multi-Sensory Environment (MSE) that is therapeutic for our friends with memory impairment. The peaceful room is outfitted with a comfortable sitting space. The room is designed to deliver stimuli to various senses using lighting effects, color, sounds, music, aromatherapy and various materials and artifacts that can be explored to stimulate the tactile senses. Our friends may be guided to the room in an effort to redirect or calm agitation or sadness or may find their way to it on their own. Either way it’s a favorite peaceful spot for our friends to enjoy.
