The Benefits of Respite Care

|

We have all seen the stories on the news or experienced the crowds in airports and on the roadways. There is no doubt that people have begun to travel again after a couple of years of pandemic isolation.

That isolation and lack of travel and lack of additional support help has been particularly hard on caregivers for elderly parents or family members. That is why Americare is currently seeing a surge in requests for our Respite Care.

Respite Care is quite simply a short-term stay at one of our communities. Respite Care arrangements allow for a loved one to join us for a day, 30 days, or anything in between. This option can allow for a well-deserved rest for caregivers, free from guilt and worry.

So often we find that a Respite Care visit is a real eye-opening experience for both the temporary resident and for the family. During the stay, all of the negative or hesitant preconceived notions about moving to a senior living community are dispelled as both the resident and family members experience the interaction and engagement. Whether for memory care or assisted living or skilled nursing, a Respite Care stay has proven to be a great transition to knowing and trusting Americare when a permanent long term care decision is ready to be made. Sometimes the temporary visit is even the final part of that immediate decision making.

My message is simple today if you are a caregiver. That is, that you deserve a break from the demands of serving as a caregiver, and we are here to help provide that break. You can get away; you can take a vacation or just step away for a few days. It is nothing to be ashamed of and it just might be a long-term positive experience for you and your loved one.

We are here to help for a day, 30 days or from today onward. We are glad that so many people are now taking advantage of the opportunity
